Dr. Cali Estes Founder of The Addictions Academy confirmed they have recently launched a new program to address the growing concern of food and sugar addiction.

The coaching program is designed to help lessen the detox when someone stops or lowers their food and sugar intake. In addition, the goal is to break the chemical addiction and the emotional connection, so participants can be free from the vice of food and sugar.

“If food or sugar has taken over your life, we can help. We know that everyone loves cake, candy, chips and burgers but if you are eating to excess, binge eating, eating when bored or simply feel you ‘just can’t stop’, this program is designed for you,” Dr. Estes said.

She continued, “Food and sugar addictions are both chemical and emotional. We treat both to help you break the connection faster, plus we offer the support you need throughout the process.”

The idea that a person can be addicted to food has recently gained increasing support. That comes from brain imaging and other studies of the effects of compulsive overeating on pleasure centers in the brain.

Experiments in animals and humans show that, for some people, the same reward and pleasure centers of the brain that are triggered by addictive drugs like cocaine and heroin are also activated by food, especially foods rich in: Sugar, Fat, and Salt.

Like addictive drugs, these highly palatable foods trigger feel-good brain chemicals such as dopamine. Once people experience pleasure associated with increased dopamine transmission in the brain’s reward pathway from eating certain foods, they quickly feel the need to eat again.

The reward signals from highly palatable foods may override other signals of fullness and satisfaction. As a result, people keep eating, even when they’re not hungry. Compulsive overeating is a type of behavioral addiction meaning that someone can become preoccupied with a behavior (such as eating, or gambling, or shopping) that triggers intense pleasure. People with food addictions lose control over their eating behavior and find themselves spending excessive amounts of time involved with food and overeating, or anticipating the emotional effects of compulsive overeating.

People who show signs of food addiction may also develop a kind of tolerance to food. They eat more and more, only to find that food satisfies them less and less. This often leads to obesity, health issues, and even realtionship problems.

The Food Addictions Coaching Program is a proven method for breaking the sugar “habit” and creating long-lasting success for participants who have often struggled with their food addition for many years.

With 25 years as a clinician and addictions professional, Dr. Cali Estes opened up a private practice and began helping people around the world get sober from drugs and alcohol. While building her signature practice, Sober on Demand, and helping top Celebrities, NFL players, and CEO’s get their lives together, she also founded The Addictions Academy.

Dr. Estes said, “Unfortunately, sugar is the most abused drug in the world. It pings the brain like cocaine and detoxes in the body like heroin. If you have ever tried to quit sugar, you know the chemical detox symptoms: headache, body aches, fatigue, trouble concentrating, irritability, diarrhea, nausea and more.”

“Side effects of the program? Your pants will fit; you will feel better your mind will be clear. You may also have health conditions that reverse or get better once you start using food as medicine,” she concluded.

Dr. Cali Estes and The Addictions Academy have been offering a wide-ranging assortment of advanced training for several years in an ongoing effort to counteract the growing addiction problem. The Academy has more than 30 faculty teaching over 40 courses in five different languages. Program graduates can be found in 25 countries helping address the addiction problem worldwide.
