Sewing for Angels announced that it is now an operating division of the non-profit 501(c)(3) Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation. It is a collaborative project to provide face masks to healthcare facilities and frontline workers.

Sewing for Angels was created by Becky Auer and Mary Beth Kratsas.  Auer and Kratsas are excited to operate as a dynamic and high-growth division of Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation.  “Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation is connected with many wonderful entrepreneurial and career training programs and opportunities which can provide assistance during and after this pandemic to those whose careers are transition,” Auer said.

She added, “As Mary Beth and I discussed this, we thought it would be a great way to help our volunteers who are helping others, and also to help to raise funds for much needed materials and supplies.” Now that Sewing for Angels is a division of the non-profit, anyone donating cash or supplies and materials can now receive a charitable contribution letter, which will provide the donor with the ability to write-off the amount of the charitable contribution from their income taxes. Auer explained, “It ended up to be a win-win for both of us.”

“The Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation’s mission, as an economic development non-profit, is to provide development and assistance for communities and social ventures,” said Jessica Lee, Vice President and Secretary of Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation.

With over 1078+ volunteers (and growing daily), Sewing for Angels has donated more than 7100 masks within the Pittsburgh area to local healthcare facilities and frontline healthcare workers.  Over 129 facilities have requested masks and there is a growing list with more requests. Governor Tom Wolf made masks mandatory in Pennsylvania on Sunday, April 19th, 2020.
