The Penguins snapped out of their early-season funk in inspiring fashion, knocking the Colorado Avalanche from the ranks of the NHL’s unbeaten Thursday. The Avalanche and their superstar trio of Nathan McKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar arrived at PPG Paints Arena with a 6-0-0 record, a red-hot power play and a plus-16 goal differential that was ranked first in the league. But the Penguins, with their most complete performance to date, were the better team in the first two periods then did what they needed to do in the third to win, 4-0.
