ELMONT, N.Y. — One seeking to make the argument the Penguins have turned in a finer period this season would have a difficult, perhaps impossible task. After a sloppy opening 20 minutes, the Penguins poured in six goals in the second period en route to earning a 7-0 win against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. Kris Letang was superb, chipping in five assists, which set an NHL record for most assists in a period by a defenseman. Letang finished the night with a career-high six assists.
