[La Verne, CA] – As seniors strive to maintain their well-being and independence, one fitness program is gaining attention for its transformative impact on older adults. Chozen Martial Arts Academy continues to refine its offerings by partnering with Coach Jack Coberly as the lead instructor for its specialized Senior Krav Maga & Fitness classes.
Chozen Martial Arts Academy owner Danny Trujillo shares, “We have students of all ages and abilities in our regular Krav Maga program, but we thought we could serve our community better with a class specifically for seniors. With Jack’s help, our little experiment has turned into an integral part of our school’s offering.”
Jack Coberly has dedicated over 55 years to the world of sports, excelling as both an athlete and a coach. With his background in physiotherapy and sports massage therapy, he possesses a comprehensive understanding of the body and the importance of tailored training approaches. After training for 5 years as a student in Chozen’s Krav Maga program, Trujillo asked Coberly to become the lead instructor for their Senior Krav Maga program.
Participants experience enhanced physical fitness and balance through a carefully curated program that includes strength-building exercises, drills, and self-defense techniques. The training targets various muscle groups, enhancing strength and flexibility while improving coordination and stability, reducing the risk of falls.
Jack Coberly remarks, “I have seen remarkable progress in the movement abilities of senior participants, particularly in their balance and coordination. Krav Maga provides a holistic approach to senior fitness, focusing on strength, flexibility, agility, and socialization.”
Beyond the physical benefits, seniors who participate in these classes enjoy a significant boost in confidence and empowerment. By overcoming initial hesitations and fears, participants develop a newfound belief in their physical abilities.
Senior Krav Maga classes under Jack Coberly’s guidance also emphasize situational awareness, teaching seniors to be more attentive and alert to their surroundings. Students also learn practical self-defense techniques to instill a sense of control and resilience, empowering seniors to confidently protect themselves and navigate daily life. By practicing realistic scenarios and learning effective self-defense techniques, seniors gain essential skills and knowledge to respond calmly and confidently to potential threats.
The social aspect of Coberly’s Krav Maga classes is another significant benefit for seniors. Participants have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of community, support, and friendship.
Coberly shares, “Our Krav Maga classes provide a supportive and inclusive environment where seniors can meet new people, forge meaningful connections, and create a strong support system. The camaraderie and shared experiences within the class foster a sense of belonging, enhancing overall well-being.”
Al Cuen, a 68-year-old student in the program, said, “I’ve developed more confidence in myself and learned to work through the pains I have. Jack does a great job and makes you feel like family here. You want to learn because of the way he teaches.”
Chozen’s Senior Krav Maga program has weekly classes and is open for new enrollments.
Chozen Martial Arts Academy serves the communities of La Verne, San Dimas, Glendora, and surrounding areas by providing training in karate, Krav Maga, and BJJ.
